Advocacy and Collaboration Strengthening workshop regarding National Tuberculosis Program with Medical college in Nepal

On 15th/ 16th March 2013 Dhulikhel Hospital-Kathmandu University Hospital is organizing a two day workshop entitled ‘Advocacy and Collaboration Strengthening Workshop regarding National Tuberculosis Program with Medical College in Nepal’ in collaboration with National Tuberculosis Centre (NTC) and World Health Organization (WHO). The main objective of the programme is to develop TB advocacy, skill enhancement and a recording/reporting system among National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) partners including medical colleges and major hospitals. Therefore, the workshop mainly focuses on strengthening NTP in medical colleges and strengthening bilateral collaboration with the government.

The programme was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University and the Director of Dhulikhel Hospital. Dr. Rajendra Pant, the Director of National Tuberculosis Centre, welcomed the participants and also elaborated the objectives of the workshop.

The presenters in the workshop are Dr. Rajendra Pant; Dr. Giampaolo Mezzabotta, the Medical Officer of WHO; Dr. Gulshan Rai Khatri, an International Consultant; Dr. Rajendra Koju, the Administrative Director of Dhulikhel Hospital; Dr. Pushpa Malla, TAG Member; Dr. Sushil Baral, Executive Director of HERD; Dr. Bhabana Shrestha, the DR TB TAG member; and Dr. Praveen Mishra, the Secretory-MoHP, GoN.

There are a total of 32 participants from different medical colleges and hospitals throughout Nepal such as KIST Medical college, Nepal Police Hospital, Kathmandu Medical College, Chitwan Medical College, Lumbini Medical College, Nobel Medical College, Manipal College of Medical Sciences, BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, National Medical College and Teaching Hospital, World Health Organization, Nepal Medical College, Sainik Birendra Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Nepal Army Institute of Health Sciences, Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital.

This is the first workshop of its kind in Nepal. We, the organizers, strongly believe that this workshop will help to understand the challenges and develop the opportunities of the TB programme and thereby, strengthen the TB program in medical colleges in Nepal, and collaboration with the government.
