Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology Building 

Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology in Dhulikhel Hospital was established since the Medical College was started. The Department deals with the medico legal cases presented in Dhulikhel Hospital along with the academic activity.

Activities:

  • All the medico legal cases like road traffic accidents, poisoning, assault, homicidal etc cases are attended
  • Classes to the MBBS students in 6th & 7th semester. The students are taught about how to deal the medico legal cases & perform autopsy.

Pharmacy

 

Dhulikhel Hospital has own pharmacy at the beginning, 1996. Pharmacy department is located within hospital premises. It provides outpatients services till mid 1997 with one pharmacist and one supporting staff. Hospital started in-patient wards services as well as inpatient ward supply system after 1997. Department has upgraded regularly. Since 1999 the department started to prepare certain extemporaneous medicines for patients. Along with dispensing the drugs it also provide proper patient counselling on medication and its indications to aid compliance. A new pharmacy block was opened in November 2009.

The department has other activities such as

Organizational: Pharmacy has organized drug and therapeutic committee (DTC) in hospital. It has vital role to deliver informative notes related to drugs. List of drugs are published in 2009. It contain name of drug used in hospital with content and dosage form.

Drug information center (DIC): was established in 2000. It provides information about drugs to doctors, nurses, medical students and paramedicals.

Patient care: For inpatient as well as outpatient, Hospital has its own pharmacy in hospital premises and run by hospital itself. It provides all required medicines for patients as their prescription. Counseling for the patient regarding proper use of medication is also provided. Also few floor stocks in OT, Emergency and Wards are maintained.
Extemporaneous preparation unit is also available for compounding more than 20 medicines to external use only & Most of products are ordered of several departments.

We prepared certain extemporaneous preparations as required as departments.

Orthopedics and Traumatology

The department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Dhulikhel Hospital has been providing services since 2004. Since then; its services have been expanded each year. At present, this department has been providing sub-specialty oriented services traumatic and non – traumatic orthopedics problems.

A. Outpatient Services

Outpatient services are available 6 days a week. The number of patients has been increasing every year. The outpatient clinic consists of two rooms with each day divided for specific sub-specialty. This department is highly sophisticated one in the entire region as well as in the country.

B. Operative Services

The department is capable of conducting all kinds of major and minor operative procedures that includes traumatic and non-traumatic alignments and reconstructive procedures.

Our operation theater is well equipped with laminar air flow, C- arm and operating microscope.

C. Emergency services

Our department   has been providing a 24 hour emergency service for the patients.  

 D. Inpatient services:

Twenty six beds, allocated for orthopaedic and traumatology ward are occupied most of the time. The ward consist of post operative room, infective room and general ward .

There is separate procedure room where minor orthopedics procedures like cast application, cast removal, debridemet, dressing , percutaneous  pinning, pin removal , suturing ,suture/staples removal are performed.

 F. Academic activities

Providing teaching faculties for various academic programs run under KUSMS including MBBS, BSc Nursing, BPT, BNS

Intra department presentation twice a week which includes journal club, topic reviews and case presentations.

G. Community Services:

Regular visit to outreach centers of the hospital as per schedules.

Organizing various orthopaedic health camps by the department.

 Future plan

To establish trauma centre.

To develop orthopedic subspecialty including spine, adult reconstruction and sports medicine.

To start orhosis and prosthesis workshop.

Otorhinolaryngology (ENT)

ENT-HNS department in Dhulikhel hospital started OPD services since 2005 with main aim to provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to those in need. The department now has 13 bedded in patient services. The department is providing outpatient services to nearly 70 patients per day. Also, it is providing both major and minor surgical procedures of nearly 12 per day.
OPD services:
Patient examination equipment's are adequate for examining one patient at a time with a patient sitting chair, headlight, suction machine etc, fiber optic endoscopic facility, case recording, two faculties can work at a time.
Procedures done in OPD:

  • Wax removal,
  • IG packing,
  • Chemical cauterization,
  • Removal of foreign body in ear and nose,
  • Anterior nasal packing,
  • Flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscopy,
  • Pure Tone Audiometry,
  • Vertigo test ,
  • Incision and drainage,
  • Ear lobe repair,
  • Major and minor dressings.

Operative services:

  • Ear surgeries: Myringotomy with/ without ventilation tube, Myringoplasty, Tympanoplasty, ossiculoplasty, Modified radical mastoidectomy,
  • Nose surgeries: Septoplasty, SMR, Rhinoplasty, Functional endoscopic sinus surgery, maxillectomies.
  • Neck surgeries: Different Thyroidectomies, Sistrunk operation, excision of branchial cyst and fistula, surgery of salivary glands, neck dissections, neck biopsies and other minor neck surgeries.
  • Phonosurgery: MLS in vocal cord polyp, nodules.

Community visits and health camps in different outreach centers teaching:
