Strengthening civil society through agriculture entrepreneurship training and health education (SURE) project is a two-year long community development project implemented by Department of Community Programs at Salambu Outreach Centers, Kavre since January 2016 in collaboration with funding partners Civil Society in Denmark and supporting partner Nepalimed Denmark. The multi-disciplinary project aimed to enhance capacity of civil society groups and individuals, in a gender wise and socially inclusive way, to organize an improved ability to bring about local community development with a special focus on sustainable agricultural entrepreneurship for better income, participation and health practices in the target area.

Five days agriculture entrepreneur training and microfinance program were the main highlights of the project that supported the women to enhance their skills and support for income generation respectively. Community Mobilization and Participation were highly emphasized during the project for the sustainability of the project with formation of different Civil Societies (CSOs) such as Steering Committee, Pressure Group, Market Management Group, School Heath Club, and Senior Citizen Council. CSO’s comprised of local community members where they meet and provided guidance to the project.

Similarly, with aim to empower microfinance women and CSOs, advocacy activities like coordinator with the local government bodies was organized. In addition, awareness programs was equally prioritized regarding existing policies, programs and rights among women and CSOs. School Health Programs, Women Health Programs, School Health Fair, Health camps were organized on regular basis in order to improve health practice of the community.

By the end of December 2017, total twenty microfinance groups were formed where 192 women participated in the five days agriculture entrepreneurship training and got loan amount of Rs. 10000 each. More than 250 senior citizen were able to make senior citizen card through advocacy activity of the project. Women have started kitchen gardening and producing vegetables for which Salambu Support Center acts as a central hub for the consumption of vegetables. The vegetables from Salambu has also been imported and served in one of the kitchen of Dhulikhel Hospital’s Canteen.
