Workshop on Minimal Access Surgery and Hands on Training in Gynaecology

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Operation Theatre Team of Dhulikhel hospital organized a workshop on "Minimal Access Surgery and Hands on Training" on December 2nd and 3rd, 2016 at Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University Hospital. The workshop was focused basically for the newly trained gynecologists and operating room nurses. The main aim of the workshop was to enhance the knowledge, skill and practice regarding minimal access surgery in gynaecology and its instrumentation. Hands on training on simulators as well as live operating of the patients was performed by gynecologists from Germany (Dr. Bernhard Uhl) and from Dhulikhel Hospital (Dr Abha Shrestha and Dr Suman Raj Tamrakar).
There were total 35 participants (7 doctors and 28 nurses) from different hospitals of Nepal. Namely, four participants from Patan hospital, two from Nepal Korea Friendship hospital, two from Nepal Medical College and Teaching Hospital (NMCTH), two from Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital (KMCTH), three from Nepal Police Hospital, two from Bharapur hospital, one from Lumbini Medical College and Teaching Hospital, two from Iwamura memorial hospital, two from Madhyapur hospital, two from Paropakar Maternity and Womens' hospital, one from Nagarik hospital, one from Grande International hospital, one from Scheer Memorial hospital and ten participants from our own institution.

In the closing ceremony, certificates were distributed to the participants and trainers by Dr Bernhard Uhl and closing remarks was also given. Participants shared their experience during the workshop. Overall, the participants felt homely environment at Dhulikhel hospital. They found that the workshop was very helpful for their practical setting and it really helped them to upgrade their knowledge and skills. They have promised that they will try to improve in their practice, especially in cleaning, disinfection and hygiene of their own settings. They are expecting to participate in other training or workshops organized by Dhulikhel hospital in future.
